Tilcon Connecticut

The Branford Steam Railroad is a privately operated short line in Branford, Connecticut, serving Tilcon’s stone quarry in North Branford. It transports crushed stone by train to a barge terminal on Long Island Sound for regional distribution. The railroad runs on a 7.2-mile track and interchanges with the Providence & Worcester Railroad and Amtrak at Pine Orchard.

At Tilcon’s Reeds Gap quarry in Wallingford, CT, a Tilcon-owned GE switcher handles on-site railcar movements, sorting loaded and empty stone hoppers. The Providence & Worcester Railroad provides mainline service, transporting outbound stone shipments from the plant to Cedar Hill Yard for regional distribution.
